Welcome to Pembroke Cottage
Leave the rest of the world behind
at Pembroke Cottage in Salthouse, Norfolk, where only the breathtaking views of the salt marshes separate you from the sea.
Pembroke Cottage can sleep six (+4) and its unique layout caters for couples, friends or families comfortably. Sleeping arrangements are across the main house and the Annex accommodation which has its own king size bedroom, sitting room with a sofa bed , bathroom with shower and coffee station.
The ground floor of the cottage is open plan so you can cook on the range oven in the company of others…while they swap stories around the dining table. Fire up the woodburner in the adjoining sitting room and you have the ideal invitation to snuggle under one of our beautiful handmade blankets and just do nothing, chat about the day, plug in to Netflix…or fall asleep.
There are two bedrooms on the first floor of the cottage. Sleep soundly in the king size bed in the master bedroom, and spot the waders and wildfowl from its windows overlooking the salt marshes. Additional sleeping space in the second bedroom comes courtesy of a set of contemporary bunk beds, designed and crafted by a Norfolk carpenter, and big enough for grown ups, as well as little ones, to stretch out.
Don’t forget to tell the kids about the secret cubby hole. And for those times when you need a little more space for teenagers or children, there’s also pull out bed under the bunk beds. A double sofa bed on the landing-come-library sleeps another two. A decorative wooden screen can be positioned around the sofa bed for extra privacy.
The annex, which provides accommodation for another two people in the main bedroom plus a sofa bed in the sitting room, is perfect for grand-parents or another family..
We want Pembroke Cottage and Annexe to be a home-from-home, somewhere that removes the most tiresome aspect of self catering: remembering to bring all you need for your stay. So, we’ve tried to think of everything…a hamper of Norfolk produce awaits your arrival and we’ve stocked up on logs for the woodburner, coffee pods and fruit teas, hot chocolate, bubble bath and marshmallows for a hot chocolate, among other things.
Hopefully, this will leave you with the time and space to enjoy the peace and tranquility of Pembroke and its gorgeous sea views. Stand on the brow of the hill in the garden or in the private south-facing courtyard with that first cup of coffee of the day and take in the sights and sounds of the Norfolk shoreline.
Accessible from the garden is the games room with pool table that comes in handy whatever the weather. A bell tent is also available to hire. The kids can burn off some energy on the trampoline or race the go kart around the garden with its undulating terrain while you doze in one of the double hammocks or sun loungers dotted around the garden. And, as the sun begins to dip below the horizon, continue to make the most of this wonderfully serene setting with alfresco dining from the barbecue on the sundeck.
Pembroke Cottage and Annexe is set in an acre of garden overlooking the sea, flanked by the extensive grazing marshes of Salthouse. Spot the barn owls and marsh harriers stalking their prey or the tired migrant birds seeking solace in the marshes.
The contemporary outside shower and loo really come into their own during the summer months after a day swimming in the sea or playing on the beach, which is just a 15-minute stroll away from the cottage. There’s also a five mile circular walk from the cottage that takes in the Norfolk Coast Path National Trail.
The celebrated Cley Marshes with its spectacular breeders are just a short walk along the beach from the cottage. It’s one of Sir David Attenborough’s best wild wonders of Great Britain and, as he said himself, one of the greatest places in the country to see wildlife. It’s Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s oldest and best-known nature reserve. Also situated between Cley and Blakeney is the 17th Century Jacobean manor house Wiveton Hall and its famous Wiveton Hall Cafe with its perfect location.
